In the summer of 2016 Ilkay Gündogan left BVB and joined Manchester City. The German football player still likes to think back to his time in Dortmund.
In a "picture" interview, the midfielder spoke about his beginnings with Borussia.
"I did not even think about what the second or third step could be: At the age of 20, the step from Nuremberg to BVB was the greatest, everything else came later," said Gündogan, who moved to Dortmund in 2011 and got the double right in his first year.
After 157 competitive games for the Westphalia, the fine technician finally took the step abroad. With ManCity he has since been twice English champion.
The reverse path was Jadon Sancho: Lack of employment opportunities under Star coach Pep Guardiola left the young attackers in 2017, the island and signed with BVB. By now, the teenager is one of the most coveted players in the world.
For Gundogan, the Englishman is "an incredibly good player, who brings everything to become a superstar." However, he did not have too many touch points with the youngster in Manchester. "As far as I can remember, he has trained with us once or twice," said the German.
Gündogan continues to believe in the championship
In the current season, Gündogan and the Citizens, meanwhile, not yet around. Eight points separate the reigning champion currently from league leaders Liverpool. However, the Sky Blues do not want to give up the title yet.

In Manchester, the 28-year-old is still in extra time after 2023 under contract. He has been involved in 125 games for City of Essen.
