Star Wars 9 is the next installment in the cult film series. In between, there were also side ranks like Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. But these will now end with the prehistory solo. The reason is that Disney does not want to oversleep the fans. Here's what the mice company plans for the popular franchise instead.
So far, three years passed between the new films of a Star Wars trilogy. Meanwhile, it is almost a tradition that every year a new film appears. Disney pursued exactly this goal after the assumption of the franchise. Finally, this worked well for the successful Marvel Cinematic Universe. Therefore, the Group pulled the system through from 2015 to 2019. Star Wars 9: The ascent of Skywalker forms the fifth star war within five years.
But behind the scenes you want to get on the brakes soon. Because Disney itself seems to realize that even loyal fans could eventually get enough. Actually, completed films like Rogue One should complement the main series. That's why we worked on a Boba Fett and Obi-Wan spin-off. While Rogue One generally did well, that was not really the case with Solo.
It was not necessarily the quality of the film, but rather the quantity of viewers. For Solo: A Star Wars Story just too few visitors came to the movie theaters. That should have put a damper on the ambitious plans of Disney and Lucasfilm. Disney boss Bob Iger himself reacted to the declining interest. According to Iger, Star Wars should become a real event again. And one that only happens every few years and not every twelve months. Instead of producing yet another spin-off in 2020, Star Wars goes into rest after part 9. In 2022, the beginning of a new, previously unknown trilogy will take place.
Side series like The Mandalorian are of course still on. You will see the new series at the beginning of 2020 in Germany on the new streaming provider Disney Plus. The trailer can now be found in our player. Simply click to start the video.
