She will not smell like "Teen Spirit", the beige-and-green cardigan worn by Kurt Cobain when she recorded the "MTV Unplugged" album. The new owner is still worth a nice sum.
A famous cardigan by the late Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain was auctioned on Saturday in New York for $ 334,000 ($ 301,000). The estimate of $ 200,000 to $ 300,000 was clearly exceeded in the Julien's Auctions auction house. The grunge musician wore the cardigan when he recorded the MTV Unplugged album in November 1993. The jacket, which has several stains and a cigarette burn hole, should never have been washed afterwards.
The previous owner Garrett Kletjian bought the jacket in 2015 and paid $ 137,500. Julien's Auctions boss Darren Julien said before the auction that the jacket was the most important piece of clothing Cobain ever wore, and thus something like the "Holy Grail" of his wardrobe.
April 1994 – less than six months after the legendary "unplugged" concert – taken at the age of 27 years of life. With his music and his style he influenced a whole generation. At the auction in New York, the Fender Mustang guitar for left-handers was auctioned, the Cobain had played in the Nirvana tour "In Utero". The instrument changed hands for $ 340,000.
